A wet week and a proper wash

Rain, brake dust, and the small ritual of putting the car away clean without turning it into a concours piece.

It rained for most of the week. The Turbo did what it is supposed to do in the wet: put the power down, stay composed, and come home wearing a film of everything the road had to offer.

I do not concours this car. I also do not leave brake dust to become geology. There is a middle path — a proper wash, dry, and a look around while the paint is honest.

The ritual

Wheels first, because they are the worst of it. The red calipers make a mess and they are worth the mess. Then a snow foam that is allowed to dwell without turning into a science project. Two buckets if I am feeling virtuous. One if I am not, and a bit more care on the grit.

The 996’s intakes collect dirt the way they collect air. The wing collects water and then throws it at you when you think you are done. None of this is a complaint. It is the shape of the car.

I dry it by hand. I look at the bushes, the tips, the places a stone chip likes to start. I do not paint-correct for Instagram. I do take a photograph if the light is doing something worth keeping.

Why it belongs here

This site is not a build thread in the traditional sense. There is no widebody kit incoming, no roll cage, no list of parts with affiliate links. The project is the car as it is: a 996 Turbo that gets used, washed, lifted, and written about.

A wet week is as much a part of that as a night drive. The gallery will grow with both.

If you are here because you are thinking about one of these, the unglamorous answer is the useful one. Buy the service history. Budget for the rubber. Wash it after the rain. Drive it before you start shopping for a bigger turbo.
